Aunt Sherry's Chocolate Cake

My Friend Debbie

If you ever wanted to know my all-time favorite cake in the world, I would tell you, that hands-down, it is my Aunt Sherry's chocolate cake. I was born in a wonderful town in Southern Mississippi and that is where my family roots are. At every family gathering, I would always look forward to Aunt Sherry's homemade chocolate cake. She says she's been making it since she was a girl. Now, in my family, my husband and children make it for me on my birthday or other special occasions. To me, nothing else compares. I hope you enjoy making one of my family traditions, but remember to follow the directions exactly and don't over bake it! And for the most delicious results, serve it warm!

  • 2 cups sugar
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp. baking soda
**set aside**

  • 2 sticks of butter
  • 4 Tbs. cocoa powder
  • 1 cup water
**bring to boil**

Pour over flour mixture, stir well with spoon.

  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 tsp. dark vanilla
Beat with hand and pour into greased and floured long rectangle cake pan. Bake 350 degrees for 20-25. (test until almost dry)

  • 3 Tbs. cocoa powder
  • 7 Tbs. milk

**bring to a boil**

  • 1/2 cup pecans or walnuts (pieces)
