Forgiving our Flaws

My Friend Debbie

Why is it that when we make a mistake in life we are so quick to get out the proverbial stick and start beating ourselves up? "We didn't get those cookies made for Johnny's class to enjoy for his birthday," or "we were too tired to have time with our spouse that evening." I'm telling you what girl . . . life is too short to be standing around beating ourselves up. It's ludicrous! We are women of God and yes, we should strive for excellence, but for crying out loud we are not the Savior Himself. We did not come into the world so that all might be saved through our great efforts and outstanding deeds. We are going to fail at times (some days - lots of times), and when we do, we need a "Get OUT of Jail Free" card available for us!

Don't lock yourself up thinking of all the things you didn't get accomplished today - instead, look at what you did. Don't look at your daily chores and duties as something that's "just supposed to be," not really counting it as "getting anything done." Are you kidding me? Taking care of a child or children (feeding, playing with, reading books to, bathing, etc.) is a responsibility that is more than just "something that's expected" and doesn't really count. It counts more because it's a lifetime investment. And, if you are holding an outside job on top of raising up children . . . well, kudos to you! Give yourself a pat on the shoulder, and when you forget about your son's project and have to throw something together at the last minute, you say to yourself, "SELF . . . at least we have something to turn in, and we'll do better next time." Forgive your flaws friend . . . if the God of perfection doesn't use them to flog you with, then why in the world should you? Let them go! Move forward! And Praise God for creating you as you are! After all, He thinks you're something pretty special! And you are!

Philippians 3: 13 - 14 "Brothers, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus."
