Needy Kid

My Friend Debbie     Recently we were starting some spring cleaning early in an effort to de-clutter our home. We put some boxes in the hallway and asked the children to go through their rooms to find clothes and toys they had outgrown and didn't need anymore. We instructed them to put those things in the boxes and that we were planning to give them away. They all began to do it cheerfully, everyone except one of our five-year-old twins, that is. Graham somehow decided he wasn't too crazy about the idea. Just then we heard him say emphatically to his older brother Gavin, "No! DON'T give that to a needy kid, I'M a needy kid!

I'm thankful to report, however, that Graham did eventually have a change of heart-- in fact, he and his brothers had a great time occupying the better part of the afternoon, filling the "keep" boxes and the "give-a-way" boxes--not that the two were very distinguishable in the least, but they had fun. They had such a good time that they deposited their only good shoes and coats into the boxes as well- at which point, I joined Graham's earlier plea and conceded they would indeed now qualify as needy kids!
