Winter Woes? Your Home Doesn't Have to Be
The holidays are gone and with them go all the festive decorations. For a quarter of the year our homes take on all the trimmings of autumn and Christmas. Now, my personal style the rest of the year is a more simplistic, less fussy look, but still warm and inviting. However, I must admit, during the holidays, with all the added textures and colors, there is a certain coziness that my home takes on that's just, well, "homey!" Just because it's January doesn't mean we have to go "cold turkey" with the decorations; instead, how about a slow weaning process!
For instance, if you have smaller scale Christmas trees throughout the house, keep a couple of them up, remove all the decorations and you have evergreen trees, sparsely lit with a soft glow is even fine, especially on cold nights. Those vases we filled with mums and foliage for autumn, and then with poinsettias and amaryllis for Christmas, why not use to display bare branches. Apothecary jars and vases are all the rage and great for seasonal decorating because of their versatility. Three or more is a collection, and a collection of these containing pinecones, berries, nuts and fruits, creates a lovely vignette. Beauty and comfort can be achieved. Who doesn't like to cuddle under a blanket; so try draping some extra throws and toss some extra pillows and you have instant warmth! Think natural when you think frosty winter dècor and you're sure to have a ball! Maybe even a snowball!
Happy New Year!
