Indelible Embrace

Our six-year-old son, Logan was angry that his daddy had to study (again) on Wednesday night so he was having a mini tantrum. I could see Logan needed some one-on-one time, and since my daughter, Teagan, was napping, I offered to take him out for a solo hour with Mom, since Daddy just could not be disturbed as he studied for a big final exam.

Logan chose an hour at the library! My son. Wow. We could have gone for ice cream, or walked in Town Center...but he wanted an hour at our local library. So we went and read together--apart. He'd come to me occasionally to drop a book in my lap, which he had just finished and thought was funny--then I'd sit reading it to myself as he moved on. It was Mommy/son time, in Logan's own way.

I got a cell phone call from Tom (yes, my phone was on vibrate/mute), saying Teagan was awake, eating dinner and missing her big brother. After a quick errand, Logan and I pulled up to the house, and there, in the lower right hand corner of our front window, was Teagan's beautiful face and her fingers, pulling her up on tiptoe. She had been watching for us, and as soon as we pulled in, that little girl dashed away from the window to go tell Daddy we were back. As Logan stepped out of the car, Teagan ran down the front steps, her arms wide, straight into the open arms of her brother. They hugged, and Logan picked her right up off the ground.

Some of my friends have joked that I cannot remember portions of my life for which I do not have a photograph, but that priceless moment will never leave my memory. That is all any parent could ever dream for her children! Tom and I recalled it tonight with tears welling up in our eyes. They adore each other so much! I pray they make room for Baby #3 in there somehow!
