Focal Point of Fashion

When it comes to wardrobe building and basic fashion sense, the number one rule is “FOCAL POINT.”

For men, this is easy, it’s usually their tie; but for women, it’s not so easy. We have to create one.

A focal point is where the eye is naturally drawn. So therefore a focal point should ideally be near the face to draw the eye to the smile and to the eyes.  A professional or elegant manner of dress would require that the focal point be at least above the waste. The focal point does not refer to make up or hair style.

You can think of a focal point as a cherry on the top of an ice cream sundae, or the decorations on a cake. It merely finishes the ensemble and tops it off! A beautifully wrapped present without a nice bow or ribbon just wouldn’t be the same! Likewise—your outfit without a focal point just isn’t the same! It’s missing something!

Without a focal point, an outfit could look flat, drab, unfinished and uninteresting! The last thing we want is to be uninteresting!

You can experiment with a necklace, scarf, pin, broach, earrings, belt, headband, or even a bold jacket can serve as your focal point.

So give it a try! You’ll be amazed at how you can bring an old outfit to life with a jazzed up focal point piece.

Have fun spotting the focal points on others!
