Christina Messer

Johanna was born in Hawaii, fourth of five children. When asked her ethnicity, she proudly says Germa-rican! Her Mother was a war bride form Germany and her father a Porto-Rican from Hawaii.

Because Johanna's father was in the U.S. Navy, her family traveled all over the United States. Johanna's family finally settled in San Diego, where Johanna was introduced to the Lord.

In the 11th grade, Johanna met a Marine and while her dad was in Vietnam, she left home and got married. This was a big mistake, but as a Christian she tried to make it work. After 3 children, infidelity and abuse, she filed for a divorce.

Four years later, she met her sole mate, a Navy Officer who was all about her. Between the two of them they had 6 children, 5 girls and 1 very challenging boy. Due to the testing of this blended family, Johanna went to Tough Love to find some harmony in her family of 8. She then became a coordinator for 3 years of Tough Love and helped other parents with the problems of teens and adult children.

Johanna lost the love of her life after 11 years and although times have been difficult, God has been faithful. She has 11 wonderful and loving grandchildren who love to spend the night with her and give that extra attention that she never received in the past. She calls them her Tickle Hearts, God's special gifts.

Jo with daughters Christina nd CarrieJo, which is the name Johanna now goes by, likes go to the beach, make quilts, and craft. Movies and restaurant hopping are also favorite pass times of hers and her best friend Gloria.

Through writing Johanna has made a choice not to hold on to the baggage that empathy can pack on, but to find freedom through God's help, discipline, love and Grace. She writes about her life to make a difference in the lives of others.
